How to create a follow-up postcard that will get a response.

Things to remember:

1. The people you are sending postcards to are already interested in what you are selling and we know this because they are on your website. There is no other reason to be on your website unless they are interested in what you have to offer.

2. Remember that your website is not the only website the prospect went to. They went to several. Because of their search, your website visitor now has prices and an idea of offers from your major competitors. 

3. I will say it again, if you were running a special in your advertising, that special was good enough to get them to check you out on your website but not good enough for them to call you and buy right now. At this point, you need to sweeten the pot.

  1. What can you offer that will sweeten the pot?
    • Additional discount?
    • Something else you can add that the prospect will find of value.
    • Some sort of guarantee?

When thinking about additional “pot sweeteners” consider what problem your prospect is trying to solve. Is there something else that you can offer that goes along with what you are promoting that they will find of value?

Think about it in this way, you are basically buying a new customer. That customer has a value to your business usually far and above what your offer is.

  • How much will this new customer spend with your company per year?
  • How many years will they be with you?
  • The answer to those questions will be the value of a new customer to your business.

The advantage you have over your competition is you can now send a postcard to someone you know is in the market to buy and now is not the time to let your inner “cheapskate” come out. Now is the time to go into “Godfather mode” and give them an offer they can not refuse!

Your rule of thumb concerning a good offer is if you catch yourself thinking “I can’t do that” or “My wife is going to kill me if I offer that” then that is probably a good offer.

The last thing you want to include in your follow-up postcard is what is called “social proof” aka reviews or testimonials. You want to give them validation that they are making the right decision buying from your company.
